An abundance of squares (part 4)

Posted by: Vicky on: 7 September, 2008

And yet more squares… (I’m omitting ones which are repeats of previous ones in different colours)
Square with diagonal eyelet panels

Cross stitch diamond square

Stocking stitch square with lace panel

Can’t remember what this one is, but it was from a stitch pattern book, rather than doing the magazine one.

Fair-isle pattern
I really like this one.

Moss Stitch Diamond Square

An abundance of squares (part 4)

Nearly there…
The last square here was meant to be yet another stocking stitch and diamond square so I chose another stitch pattern, which I really like, but I can’t remember what it was called or how it went!

Spare swatches?

Posted by: Vicky on: 24 April, 2008

Simply Knitting magazine gave all their spare swatches to The Alzheimer’s Society in Doncaster, who used them to make blankets for Alzheimer’s patients.
If you’ve got any spare swatches, then it sounds like the Alzheimer’s Society would gladly receive them.  They can be sent to: Jill, Alzheimer’s Society, 1st Floor, 58 Balby Road, Balby, [...]

Seed stitch square

Posted by: Vicky on: 25 February, 2007

This is the 7th square for the blanket. It’s basically stocking stitch but you do an occassional purl stitch when you are on a knit row. Quite a subtle effect.

How I made it:
CO 27 sts on 4.5mm needles
1st row: Knit
2nd row: Purl
3rd row: K4, *p1, k5, rep from * to last 5 sts, [...]

Stocking Stitch Heart Square (Intarsia)

Posted by: Vicky on: 14 February, 2007

ARGH!! What is it about switching between different colour yarns that I don’t get? This is the next square for the blanket, but again I had to unpick it 3 times before I got it correct.

I think that I’m quite a tight knitter anyway, and everytime I tried to do the heart, I [...]

More blanket squares

Posted by: Vicky on: 14 February, 2007

If I do a square a week, it’s going to take 90 weeks to finish it – and that’s a lot of issues of the Art Of Knitting magazine to buy. So Mum bought me a book on Monday with some other ideas for squares. I just need to get some yarn in [...]

Blanket squares 4 & 5

Posted by: Vicky on: 10 February, 2007

The blanket is slowly progressing and I’m learning lots in the process.
Square 4 was easy. Mock rib with garter stitch ridges square:
How I made it:
CO 27 stitches with 4.5mm needles.
Rows 1-4: Garter stitch.
Next row: (RS) Knit
Next row: P1, *k1, p1, rep from * to end.
Rep last 2 rows once more.
Rep last 8 rows until [...]

Squares 2 and 3

Posted by: Vicky on: 30 January, 2007

Thought I’d show you the next two squares of the blanket. The blue one caused me a few problems because I kept forgetting which row I was doing.

How I made this square:
Cast On 28 stitches on 4.5mm needles.
1st row (RS): Knit to end
2nd row: p4, *k2, p4, rep from * to end
3rd row: Knit to [...]

The start of a blanket

Posted by: Vicky on: 3 January, 2007

More knitting… I started a blanket last night after getting a copy of “The Art of Knitting” magazine. It will be made up of lots of small squares with various patterns on

Small mishap though – my first square turned out slightly smaller than the pattern said it would. Oh well!

But other than that – it [...]
